The Medbridge Skills platform replaces paper checklists with structured digital programs that support consistent onboarding and skill evaluation. As an Administrator, you are responsible for building those programs, assigning the right people to them, and monitoring progress over time.
Use this approximately 30-40 minute quick start guide as your roadmap to understand how Skills works, how to set it up, and how to keep it running effectively.
Part 1: Understand the Fundamentals (7 minutes)
Before building your first program, it is important to understand what Skills is, who uses it, and how the different roles interact with one another.
- [Watch – 2 minutes] Getting started with Medbridge Skills for Administrators - Provides an overview of how Skills can benefit administrators looking to modernize their onboarding workflows and gain real-time visibility into Clinician progress.
- [Watch – 2 minutes] Getting started with Medbridge Skills for Preceptors - Provides an overview of how Preceptors can utilize Skills within Medbridge to ensure clinical practices are being followed in the field.
- [Read – 3 minutes] Skills Overview - An in-depth article covering the core concepts behind Skills, including how programs, checklists, and skills are structured and why each role exists.
Part 2: Build Your Skills Program (6 minutes)
Skills programs are made up of checklists, and checklists are made up of individual skills. How you structure these directly affects how Preceptors evaluate and how progress is tracked.
- [Read – 4 minutes] Designing a Skills Program - Learn how to plan your program around real onboarding phases, write effective checklist and skill descriptions, and decide which skills to mark as Required.
- [Read – 2 minutes] Skill Resources and Self-Assessment - Understand how to attach Medbridge courses or files to individual skills, and how the self-assessment survey is automatically generated for Clinicians.
Part 3: Assign Users (7 minutes)
Assignments control who can see what. Preceptors can only evaluate Clinicians assigned to the same program, so getting this step right before go-live is critical.
- [Read – 3 minutes] Assigning Clinicians and Preceptors - A step-by-step guide to assigning users to a Skills program, enabling Clinician notifications, and adding Collaborators for oversight access.
- [Read – 2 minutes] Adding Collaborators - A step-by-step guide to assigning users as a Collaborator to receive progress notifications.
- [Read – 2 minutes] Assignment Best Practices - Learn why assigning multiple Preceptors and maintaining a regular review cadence protects against missed evaluations and audit trail gaps.
Part 4: The Clinician Experience (5 minutes)
Understanding what Clinicians see in Skills helps you set accurate expectations during onboarding and troubleshoot questions they may have about their checklists, self-assessments, and evaluation feedback.
- [Read – 3 minutes] The Clinician Experience in Skills - A walkthrough of what Clinicians see once they are assigned to a program, including how to review checklists, complete the self-assessment survey, and view Evaluator Notes after sign-off.
- [Read – 2 minutes] Clinician Skills progress monitoring - A walkthrough of how Clinicians can easily monitor their Skills programs progress in their dashboard.
Part 5: The Preceptor Experience (5 minutes)
Knowing how Preceptors interact with Skills ensures they are set up correctly before Clinicians begin orientation and helps you support them if they run into issues during evaluation.
- [Read – 3 minutes] The Preceptor Experience in Skills - A walkthrough of what Preceptors see once assigned, including how to locate Clinicians, evaluate individual skills, mark outcomes, and add Evaluator Notes.
- [Read – 2 minutes] Preceptor Skills progress monitoring - A walkthrough of how Preceptors can easily monitor their Skills programs progress in their dashboard.
Part 6: Track and Monitor Progress (5 minutes)
Your role does not end at setup. Use the Outcomes Dashboard and Clinician transcripts to identify who is progressing, who needs follow-up, and where the program may need adjustment.
- [Read – 3 minutes] Using the Outcomes Dashboard - Learn how to filter by group or program, drill into individual Clinician progress, send reminders, and export data for reporting.
- [Read – 2 minutes] Transcripts and the Audit Trail - Understand how Preceptor sign-offs are recorded, what appears in a Clinician transcript, and when to use these tools for audits or performance reviews.
Summary Checklist for New Admins
- Design your program structure - map out your checklists by phase, topic, or role before building in the platform.
- Assign Clinicians, Preceptors, and Collaborators before Clinicians begin orientation, and enable email notifications so they know their program is ready.
- Schedule time biweekly to review the Outcomes Dashboard of each Skills program and follow up with Clinicians who are falling behind.
