How do I review and sign off on Clinician skills as a Preceptor?

As a Preceptor, you're responsible for evaluating a Clinician's (student's) clinical skills within an assigned Skills program. This article explains how to access a Clinician's checklist, review their self-assessments, and complete your evaluation.

Navigating to the Program

1. From your Dashboard, find the Skills (Preceptor) section.
2. Select the Skills program you want to review.
3. Find the Clinician you want to review. You can use the search or filters. Select the Clinician’s name to open their review page.
4. On the Clinician’s review page, you’ll see:
   • Assigned checklists
   • Progress bar
   • Clinician self-assessment results for each skill
5. Select a checklist to begin reviewing.
6. Expand a skill to view the Clinician’s self-assessment response.

Completing Your Skill Review

For each skill:

1. Select an Evaluation Method (e.g., Observation, Demonstration).
2. Choose a Completion Status:
   • Completed: counts toward program completion
   • N/A: counts toward program completion
   • Remediation Needed: does not count toward completion
   • Not Reviewed: default status; does not count toward completion
3. Add a Note to explain your evaluation. Notes are saved to the audit log and visible to Clinicians. Adding clear feedback helps guide improvement and creates a strong documentation trail.
4. Once changes save, they will appear in the audit log.

If you change a skill from one status to another after saving, you'll be prompted with a confirmation modal.

Note: When reviewing the progress, please note that the progress bar at the top of the Clinician review page updates automatically. Only required skills marked as Completed or N/A count toward progress. Skills marked Remediation Needed or left Not Reviewed will not count.

Notes

• You can return to the Clinician's review page at any time to update or complete reviews.
• All evaluation data is logged for audit and reporting purposes and cannot be directly edited. If you need to fix a mistake or add additional notes to explain an issue, just make a note in the audit log.
• Preceptors cannot add or remove Clinicians from a program.
