When you're ready to assess a Clinician on a specific Skill, they can now share a QR code from the Medbridge mobile app that takes you as the Preceptor straight to that Skill on your device. No paper checklists, no scrolling through rosters to find the right Clinician - you scan their QR code, you see the Skill, you sign off.
This article walks through how students can share a Skill QR code with you as their Preceptor and how to review the changes that need to be made afterward.
Where this lives
This feature is available in the Medbridge mobile app. The QR code is generated per Skill, so students will start from the Skill you want to assess them on.
QR Code vs. Paper Checklist
If your team has historically tracked in-person Skill sign-offs on paper, the QR code accomplishes the same thing with the added benefit of writing directly to each Clinician's permanent record.
Paper Checklist
- Preceptor checks a box and signs the page
- Sign-off lives on a sheet of paper
- Records have to be transcribed or scanned later
- Easy to lose, hard to audit
Skill QR Code
- Preceptor scans, opens the Skill, signs off in-app
- Sign-off is recorded against the Clinician's transcript instantly
- No transcription, no missing paperwork
- Notes and history are stored as part of your record
Sharing a Skill QR Code
Use this workflow whenever you and your Clinician are together in person and you are ready to evaluate a specific skill.
- Have the Clinician open the Medbridge Clinician mobile app and tap Activity.
- Under the To-do tab, have them tap the program that contains the Skill you want to assess them on.
- Scroll to the checklist and tap the Skill that the Clinician is being assessed on.
Have the Clinician tap Share QR for review.
Now you can scan the QR code with the Medbridge app on your own device.
- Once you scan, you'll be taken directly to the Clinician record for that Skill, where you can review it, leave notes, and sign off.
Tip
Have your Clinician turn their screen brightness up before presenting the QR code - it scans faster and works better in bright clinical environments.
Important
Each QR code is tied to a single Skill. If you need to assess multiple skills in one session, have the Clinician generate a new QR code for each Skill as the Clinician moves through them.
What You as the Preceptor See
When you scan the QR code, if you do not already have the Medbridge Clinician App installed, the code will take you to the appropriate storefront to download the app. Otherwise, you will be prompted to sign into the Clinician App if you are not already. Once signed in, the Medbridge app opens directly to the Clinician's record for that specific Skill. You do not need to search for the Clinician, locate the program, or navigate to the right checklist - the QR code carries all of that context. From there, you can complete the evaluation, leave any notes, and sign off, and the change is written to the Clinician's transcript immediately.
Reviewing Preceptor Activity
After you sign off on a Skill, Clinicians can see a record of what you did from the same Skill Detail page.
- Have the Clinician navigate back to the Skill in their checklist.
Tap Preceptor activity log.
They can review any updates you made - including evaluation status changes and notes left on their record.
If you have not yet reviewed the Skill, the activity log will be empty. Once you sign off or leave a note, it will appear here for the Clinician to read
