The MedBridge Skills and Competency Manager provides an end-to-end solution for onboarding and training, getting clinicians into the field faster while also improving patient care quality, reducing the risk of errors, and meeting regulatory requirements.
Below, you'll find frequently asked questions about the Skills and Competency Manager to help you get the most out of this tool. For more information on how to use the Skills and Competency Manager, check out our Getting Started video series.
Which users have access to the Skills Checklist?
If your organization has enabled the Skills Checklist, all users within your organization will have access to the Skills Checklist in some capacity.
-
Standard MedBridge users will only have access to the Skills and Competency Manager platform if a checklist has been assigned to them by an administrator or preceptor.
-
Any user within your organization can be made a preceptor during the checklist assignment process. For more information about assigning checklists, see the Assigning a Checklist article.
-
Any user with a role can access all administrator features for the Skills and Competency Manager by navigating to “Skills Administration” under the “My Practice” dropdown menu. This includes Org Administrators, Administrators, KT Administrators, and Managers.
-
Note that these roles must be built into your MedBridge organization. For more information about roles, view the Role Permissions article.
Individual MedBridge subscribers will not have access to the Skills and Competency Manager, only enterprise subscribers will have access to this platform.
What does the Due Date field refer to on a checklist?
This is the date by which you expect the entire checklist to be complete (including Self Assessment and Preceptor sign-off).
How many preceptors can a checklist have?
Each assigned checklist requires one primary preceptor, and you can elect to include as many secondary preceptors as you prefer.
What is the difference between Primary Preceptor and Secondary Preceptor?
The Primary Preceptor is designed to be the primary evaluator of the checklist - this field is required and limited to one assignee. The Secondary Preceptor may be used to tag any number of additional preceptors who will support the primary preceptor in skill sign-off. Primary and Secondary preceptors have the same permissions in MedBridge when it comes to completing a checklist.
Can I automatically assign a Skill Checklist when a new user is added like I do with Knowledge Tracks?
Because of the additional complexity of needing to assign the preceptor(s) with a checklist, this functionality is not available via automation at this time.
What happens if I need to edit my Skill Group after I have assigned it to users?
You cannot edit the existing version of a Skill Group after it has been assigned to a user for completion. If you need to edit a Skill Group that has already been assigned, it’s best practice to duplicate the Skills Groups, make the necessary changes, and assign the new duplicate checklist to any relevant users.
Can I customize the name of my selected skills when adding to my checklist?
Not at this time.
What if my clinician doesn’t complete the checklist by the due date?
The checklist will be flagged as “overdue” and remain in this status until it is completed. Note that in the assignment report, a checklist will be listed as in progress from the time it was assigned to the time it was completed, regardless of due date.
Can I customize the content linked to a skill in my checklists?
Yes, you can add any additional content to a skill on your pre-built checklist. This can be done by clicking the down arrow on a skill, and selecting the “Add” button next to resources. Please keep in mind that when you add content to any skill, all users within your organization that have been assigned a checklist containing this skill will also be able to view the content attached.
Can I put my checklists in a specific order?
Skill Checklists are organized alphabetically first by skill category and second by skill grouping. The order of a checklist cannot be customized at this time.
Can I turn off the self assessment for a checklist or a portion of a checklist?
At this time, the self assessment will be a required component of all skill checklists, and must be completed in its entirety before preceptors can begin signing off on included skills.
How do I edit a skill evaluation after it has been submitted?
If you have previously submitted a skill evaluation which needs to be edited, please contact your internal MedBridge administrator. Users with the Admin permission have the ability to edit or remove a skill evaluation submission.
Who will receive a notification when I assign a checklist?
If you select “Notify…” when assigning a checklist, the checklist assignee and any preceptors assigned to the checklist will receive an email notification indicating the checklist has been assigned. This is the only notification available in association with Skills Checklist.
How do I remove a checklist template that is no longer needed?
If the checklist has never been assigned to a clinician, you can use the delete feature to remove the checklist. At this time, there is no option to archive a checklist template that was previously used and is no longer needed. MedBridge recommends managing your Checklist Templates by using a naming convention that indicates which disciplines the checklist is designed to support, in what capacity, and as of what date. This way administrators can coach their teams to ensure they are always looking for the latest version of a checklist.
When I submit a new skill using the “Request a New Skill” button, how long will it take for the skill to be added to the MedBridge library?
A MedBridge representative will reach out to address your request within 48 hours.
What clinical and non-clinical disciplines is the Skills and Competency Manager prepared to support?
The skills currently available in the Skills and Competency Manager are designed to support the needs of Nurses, Home Health Aides, and Physical, Occupational, and Respiratory Therapists. We are continually adding new skills to the library to support more clinicians and disciplines. If there are additional disciplines you would like to see supported by the Skills and Competency Manager, contact your Customer Success Manager or MedBridge Client Services.
